That drawer is asking for less stuff, not a better organizer.

A manageable reset for the kitchen drawer that catches every time you open it.

There is usually one object responsible for the noise. A ladle, a rolling pin, something with a handle that has no business lying diagonally. You shove the drawer shut, knowing perfectly well that you will have this conversation again at dinner.

Empty one drawer, and only one

Put a towel on the counter and lay out the contents. Stop there. It is very tempting to turn a ten-minute job into a kitchen-wide reckoning. Keeping the boundary small makes it much more likely that the drawer will be usable again before you need to cook.

Sort by what happens on an ordinary week

The things you reach for constantly deserve the easy spots. Occasional tools can move to a less convenient place. Duplicates deserve a question: do two of these ever get used at once? Sometimes the answer is yes. You get to keep what suits your kitchen, rather than somebody else’s idea of minimalism.

Remove anything broken or unrelated. Put the mystery parts aside until you identify them; do not assume that every unfamiliar piece is rubbish.

Try the arrangement before buying dividers

Use a small box you already have to separate loose pieces. Open and close the drawer a few times with its normal contents inside. Is anything catching? Can you grab what you need without moving three other things?

If the drawer still sticks when empty, clutter was not the whole problem. Look for the manufacturer’s care guidance or have the hardware checked. An organizer cannot repair a bent runner. But if the drawer now glides normally, enjoy that tiny improvement every time you make lunch.
